posting drought

i know i know a bad blogger i have been, but i have very good reason. i just started a new job and....I AM ENGAGED!!!!

my new job has a gazillion responsibilites and i am in the early stages of planning a wedding in costa rica, so i have not had a moment to knit, much less post. i have thrown away the idea of knitting or making presents since i have no time. so i will ask permission to digress from my knitting to discuss my pending nuptials....if any of you know me, i have been  known to have a little girlie tendencies, but even this stuff is likely to make me barf.

me, wearing an engagement ring, and a big white dress, bananas(and not happening)!

in light of the massive size of both of our families, my beau and i have decided to take the show on the road, moving the wedding to the glorious playa tamarindo, where i can get hitched and fulfill my surfdiva fantasies. we plan to have a big celebration when we get back to include all those who can't make the trip.

well that's it for now, i am going back to celebrate my engagement, and rest up for my big day of work ahead of me.

big things a gwon

life has been getting in the way of blogging. this has been a very stressful week for me. i have not really started officially working at my new job and i have been working from home getting ready for the big day, which seems to be tuesday, so keep your fingers crossed! i had a house guest in my apartment for 5 days, so that was also a little time consuming. i thought that i would be able to knit my heart away but there is never enough time in a day! october is birthday month for most of my friends and family so it seem that every evening there is somewhere for me to go or some party to attend. my mother's birthday would have been the 14th. her best friend's b-day would have been the 13th, so i know that their spirits are together somewhere celebrating... with all this to do going on in my life, i have not been able to blog much less knit. but i will keep trucking along on my weekly holiday knitting plan.....

hats a go-go

this nifty little hat only took a few hours to make and it's just so cute. another bonus is that this yarn has been in my stash for almost three years. there is plenty left and there are lots of babies to knit for, so i will make a few more. next time i will write down the pattern and post it here and to the knitlist gift exchange.

i went to school products a few weeks ago and i picked up some kureyon to make hats. unfortunately, i just looked at the color and lot numbers but not closely at the yarn and the two balls are totally different. so now, i have a hat that mostly finished but i can't complete until i get another ball that matches a little better. but here is a sneak peek. that's all for now.

holiday knitting, oh my!

so as always, i am starting way late on my holiday knitting. but i figure that if i knit a present once a week, i'll get at least 12 things done. granted they will be 12 small, fast yet cute and hand knit gifts for my friends and family. so all goes well on the vogue knitting jacket, i am working on the left front side and i am thinking about knitting the sleeves at the same time to make sure i make the increases simultaneously. and this weeks holiday project is a basic boring, ribbed watchcap out of kureyon. but it will definitely do the trick. an easy gift for a male recipient.

i've also been thinking about knitting the one skein wonder  for my niece. she's in middle school and i think that this would be trendy and cute for her. if all goes well and i like the results, then i will make a one of my own. but i think i would prefer a boob holder, or a modified one similar to jessamyn's  that would be more of a ballet style wrap. there is a pattern that i may consider that i found here which would give me a chance to visit their new new york store. but the temptation may be too great and my budget is pretty tight these days.

yesterday, a knitting co-worker gave me a copy of the knitpicks catalog. i had never even heard of it before. but better late than never, i guess. i can't wait to get my hands on some yarn to dye. i have never tried it before and i am itching to do some kool aid dyeing!

knit out 2005

i survived my first knit out in union square today. when i woke up, i began to panic, because i could not find anything that i knit that i could wear to the knit out in the unseasonably warm weather today. Alas, i decided to wear my koigu mini skirt (will post a picture soon, i'm sorry but i hate the tedious process of uploading the flix from my phone) which was quite a success. there were so many knitters from all over the tri-state area! it was quite a site to see, and i am very glad i was able to go. I saw lily chin and vicky howell up close and the nyc stitch n bitchers were out in full force too! i ran into some of my old co workers from the knit, which was very nice.

the best part of today was seeing the inter-generational knitting posses (e.g--3 generations of women showing their knitted creations) as well as seeing all the kids knitting too. I would love to volunteer and work with preteens, helping them to design and create their own clothes and accessories.  i should have been more vocal as i am sure there were people that do those sort of things there today. i'll ask at the next s-n-b...

i don't know when i  became so shy and uncomfortable with strangers, but i definitely felt like i could have participated a little bit more. there were so many resources available... hindsight is always 20/20.  enough beating myself up, let's talk about the good things like the progress of my knitting

  • i started a little baby elf hat for t.j's nephew out of some scrap bulky lion's brand acrylic that i used for charity knitting. his sister and co. are in town for the weekend and i figured that the little florida baby needed some protection from the chilly new york nights, i have to finish it tonight since they leave tomorrow. i promise to take a photo before giving it away. btw, the jumper i made for this baby was the thing that pulled me out of my knitting drought
  • still have not found the yarn to finish the sock, but we shall see....

i promise that i will update this post with photos within the next 24 hours, so stay tuned
